How to care for your readers

May 31, 2022

Once you find the perfect reading glasses, it’s important to take good care of them to ensure longevity. You’ll be surprised at how just a little bit of cleaning and care will help your Myspex readers last for years.

Storing Your Frames

Your Myspex Readers come with a complimentary case to help you keep your frames clean and safe. Be sure to keep your frames in your Myspex Case between uses. If you’ve lost or damaged your case, you can purchase a new one here

Avoid storing your glasses in your purse or pocket without protection, as that will lead to scratching the lenses and other damages to the frame.

Cleaning Your Lenses

Your Myspex Readers also come with a complimentary custom lens cleaning cloth. This is the best material for your lenses. However, if you don’t have the Myspex cleaning cloth handy, you can use a piece of clean, dry cotton. To thoroughly clean your lenses:

  1. Wash your hands to remove excess dirt and oil.
  2. Run your lenses under warm water or apply lens cleaning solution. Rinse thoroughly, then gently tap on the side of the sink to remove excess water.
  3. Dab them clean with your custom lens cleaning cloth.

Avoid using your shirt to clean your readers, as it has collected dust that will scratch your lenses. Avoid using paper towels and alcohol-based cleaner, as both tend to scratch and/or smear your lenses.

Keeping your Frames in Shape

It’s just as important to keep the correct shape of your lenses for your face. Here are a few guidelines to follow to ensure your frame’s correct contour:

  1. When you take off your reading glasses, use both hands to gently remove them. Avoid taking them off from only one side, as it will stretch the arms and hinges over time.
  2. Avoid wearing your glasses on your head, as it will also stretch the arms and hinges over time.
  3. If you have plastic frames, avoid letting them sit in direct sunlight. This will cause them to soften and distort their shape.

Mypsex Readers are easy to care for, and when done correctly, can last for years. Be sure to follow all above guidelines to ensure the durability of your lenses and frames.

Find Your Lens Strength

Find Your Lens Strength

MySpex readers are available in multiple lens strengths, from +1.00 to +3.00. Use this chart to find out what lens strength is appropriate for you.

Step 1

Print the chart below on a 8.5" x 11" paper. Be sure to print it out as is. Do not adjust it to 'Fit to Page' or change the zoom.

Find Your Lens Strength Chart

Step 2

Place the chart about 12-14 inches away from your face, or where you would normally hold a book or newspaper.

Step 3

With your glasses off, begin to read the lines from top down. The first line you have difficulty reading is your lens strength.

Some MySpex lenses are available in +0.25 increments. If your first difficult line is extremely blurry, consider choosing the strength in between.

The MySpex Promise

If you receive your glasses and they are not the appropriate lens strength, we will gladly exchange your readers within 12 months of your original purchase. Read more on our Warranty Page.
